Hackers have been busy at work and as a result 10 LOT flights were forced to be grounded over this past weekend. This is actually the first time that hackers have caused actual flight cancelations. The attack was made on the airline’s IT network and it affected flights to such cities as Munich, Stockholm, Hamburg, and Copenhagen. All the affected flights were to European cities from the airline’s base in Warsaw, Poland. These cancellations ended up affecting a whopping 1,500 passengers.
“Sunday afternoon LOT encountered IT attack that affected our ground operation systems,” was the official message from LOT. “As a result we’re not able to create flight plans and outbound flights from Warsaw are not able to depart.” The airline went on to assure passengers that it doesn’t affect their plane systems nor does it affect flights that are already airborne.
