You can find ways to save money on discount airfare to India. Emirates has introduced a new pre-paid additional baggage tool on its website. Passengers who take a trip with additional baggage can take a 15 percent discount on standard airport rates when they pay ahead.

Passengers departing from most Emirates airports, which includes the airline’s four US gateways: New York (JFK), Houston (IAH), Los Angeles (LAX), and San Francisco (SFO), will be able to purchase discounted additional baggage online via Emirates’ website. Ticketed customers may log-in to “Manage a Booking” on Emirates.com within 24 hours of departure to purchase selected amounts of additional baggage.

Strike Hinders Travel in France

You can still find discount airfare to France this summer. Many French trains stood still, schoolchildren played instead of studied and post offices were closed as workers throughout the nation went on strike Thursday in protest of President Nicolas Sarkozy’s plans to raise the retirement age to 62.

Almost 200 marches and protests are planned for several cities over a large reform to the money-losing pension system, this is part of efforts around Europe to cut back on growing public debts.

The French civil aviation authority, DGAC, asked airlines to cancel 15 percent of their flights out of Paris’ Charles de Gaulle and Orly airports because of strikes by air traffic controllers. Air France said all of its long-haul flights would not be affected.

British Travelers Largest Spenders at the FIFA World Cup 2010

Still looking for cheap airfare to South Africa this summer? Data from VISA says that British tourists in South Africa have so far been the largest spenders during the FIFA World Cup 2010. Fifty-one percent of the $128 million total tourist spent between June 1 and June 20 was made by visitors from the UK, the USA, Australia, France and Brazil. Most of this went on accommodation, restaurants, retail, and transportation.

According to VISA they tracked $83 million worth of consumer transactions during the same period in 2009, which means that this year’s tally is up by more than half, while card purchases in South Africa since the World Cup, which started on June 11, have increased by over 80 percent.

Businesses in the City Bowl, Waterfront, and Greenpoint areas have experienced a 71 percent average occupancy during the last two weeks, around 20 percent up on the same time last year. In general, establishments further from the center have had disappointing bookings, with 39 percent having occupancy levels of below 20 percent.
