Second Explosion in a Week Shakes Bangkok

Friday, July 30th, 2010

Thailand has been marked by political turmoil for the past four years, with tensions coming to a head in April and May when some 90 people were killed and more than 1,400 were injured during two months of protests in central Bangkok.

A grenade exploded near a Bangkok shopping mall early Friday, injuring one person and rattling the Thai capital less than a week after a similar blast left one dead and several more in the hospital

Authorities refuse to speculate if the explosions are linked to the country’s ongoing political turbulence.

Travel to Florence this Fall

Friday, July 30th, 2010

Purchase discount airfare and visit the “city of stone”, Florence, Italy. The assessment that Florence is “the city of stone” digs deeper than merely the fact that the buildings, streets, doorjambs, sidewalks, windowsills, towers, and bridges are all cobbled together in shades of gray, stern rock hewn by generations of the stonecutters Michelangelo grew up with. Florence’s stoniness is evident in both its countenance and its character. The city’s fundamental rhythms are medieval, and it’s fiendishly difficult to get beyond the touristy surface and see what really makes Florence tick. Although the historic center is compact, it takes time and effort to get to know it, get the hang of its alleys, and understand the deep history of its palace-lined streets.

Visit Tivoli While Traveling to Denmark

Thursday, July 29th, 2010

Purchase discount airfare to Denmark where Copenhagen’s Tivoli Gardens conveys the work of some of Denmark’s most celebrated architects. Tivoli, a charming and compact amusement park, is not only in the center of the capital but also sits at the middle of the culture. Danes feel proprietary about it, having grown up riding its 1914 Rutschebanen roller coaster, listening to its local symphony orchestra, and eating in its restaurants, which range from a cafe serving Danish smorgasbord and a Croatian buffet.

Copenhagen wants to be both modern capital and tourist destination. With its glamorous hotels, towering carousels, architectural experimentation, and now Denmark’s ultimate cultural cliché…you don’t even need to leave Tivoli.
