Since the formerly State-owned airline unveiled its plans to increase the time cabin crew was in the air from 700 to 850 hours a year in October 2009 a showdown between Aer Lingus and Impact has been unavoidable.

A key part of the plan to take €97m off Aer Lingus’ operating costs was that the flying hours of cabin crews be increased from 700 to 850 hours per year. Impact, the trade union which represents the cabin crew, states that its members haven’t agreed to the new rosters which give effect to 850 hours, they have voted to accept the restructuring plan.
