Air Canada and WestJet ban large pets on holiday flights

Sunday, December 7th, 2014

Starting December 15, Air Canada and WestJet will stop allowing large pets as checked baggage until after the holidays are done. Smaller pets will still be allowed in the cabin as carry-on, with restrictions. According to WestJet, the heavy holiday baggage amounts pose a risk to any animals transported in the baggage area. Air Canada says the restrictions are put in place because of increased cargo and passenger loads. On Air Canada flights, passengers may bring pets in carry-on luggage as long as they fit the size restrictions; they may not bring pets if they are unaccompanied minors, are seated in a bulkhead or exit row, or are flying in International Business Class or Premium Economy.
