The main jet fuel supplier for Vancouver International Airport, BP Cherry Point refinery, has been shut down due to a refinery fire. Despite this, airport operations are still in full swing. The fire broke out on Saturday at the third largest plant on the west coast and the interruption in fuel delivery is indefinite at this point. On Saturday a spokesperson for the company said they do not yet know when the refinery will get back to normal production as workers have worked throughout the weekend to determine how much damage was done.
Ralph Eastman, of Vancouver Airport Fuel Facilities Corporation, said that there is currently no disruption in the fuel supply to the airport. The airport gets 60% of its fuel from BP and the remaining fuel from the Chevron refinery in Burnaby. A delivery from BP that was scheduled for Saturday morning came through and Eastman said that BP has told them it is business as usual. However, the interruption in BP operations has caused headaches at the pumps.
