First Direct Flights from Seoul to Taipei

Seoul is set to offer direct flights from Gimpo Airport to Taipei International Airport.  The flights will begin on Monday and are the very first direct flights between the capital cities of Seoul and Taiwan.  Before the introduction of the new direct flight, travellers had to go to cities near the capitals.  The new route is a part of Taiwan’s flight network, which is continuing to expand and also includes non-stop service from Taipei to Shanghai’s Hongqiao Airport and Tokyo’s Haneda Airport.

The government of Taiwan has the goal of making it possible for travellers to connect to other major cities in Northeast Asia via direct flights.  The ability to make these flights will make it more convenient for business travellers and cut travel time for everyone.  They also hope to see the number of tourists form overseas rise as a result of the direct flights.  The Civil Aeronautics Administration’s Planning, Legal and International Affair Division said that the new flight network will make Taipei a hub in Northeast Asia.
