For the fourth day in a row hundreds of flights were cancelled at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport. The cancellations were a result of major storms and tornadoes that ravaged the northern part of Texas on Tuesday and produced hail that damaged more than 100 aircraft. A spokesperson for the airline, Rhonda Rathje, said that on Friday American Airlines cancelled 296 flights, but added 17 additional flights to help move people from the locations to which they were diverted earlier in the week.
There are still 51 American Airlines planes that are unable to fly at the present time, due to damaged sustained by hail when more than a dozen tornadoes touched down in the region. Rathje said that because of this, there are fewer aircraft able to fly and that has lead to the cancellations. She said that the airline anticipates cancelling only 27 flights on Saturday and only one flight on Sunday.
