It seems that Great Lakes Aviation has had to cancel a number of flights due to mechanical problems. This has passengers of the airline concerned about whether they are safe to fly with and/or whether the airline is having issues with low passenger numbers and is struggling, passing off the flight cancellations as mechanical issues. One passenger, Mavis Owens of Nora Springs, said her flight from Mason City to Minneapolis was great, but then her return flight was cancelled.
Other passengers that Owens spoke with also had their flights cancelled due to mechanical problems. Great Lakes Airline just took over flights to Mason City in April, which does not bode well for the airline to have so many problems at this point. However, an official from the airline, Mary Osborne, says there is no cause for concern. She said that low passenger volume is not a cause for cancellation and that the airline has a few cancellations in April in May that were due to bad weather or mechanical problems. Ideally they want no cancellations and she understands passengers’ concerns.
