A controversial proposal is being considered by Ministers regarding the allowance of night flights at London’s Heathrow International Airport. The proposal has come from Emirates Airline, who has made assurances that they can cut the level of noise by coming in at a descent that is steeper than normal and landing part way down the runway, sparing many homes in west London from being affected by the noise.
Emirates Airline wants permission to fly A380s to and from Heathrow until 1:00 am and starting again at 4:00 am. This would allow the airline to increase their number of daily flights from Heathrow to Dubai from five to seven, but the move to allow this would be strongly opposed as the current ban is in effect from 11:30 pm to 6:00 am. Tim Clark, Emirates Airline’s president, said that the A380 is a new type of quieter wide-body jet and that they should have a reduced ban on these types of aircraft.
