Victoria International Airport resumes flights after de-icer shortage

Flights at Victoria International Airport were grounded for several hours on Monday when there was a shortage of de-icing fluid.

The area was hit by cold and snow and this caused two-thirds of the daily flights to be affected when the airport unexpectedly ran out of de-icing fluid. Crews were ready for flurries and rain, but not the freezing temperatures that require the use of the mix of glycol and hot water. The airport went through a season’s worth of the fluid in just 48 hours.

Vancouver International provided Victoria International with 6,000 liters of glycol but it had to travel by ferry to Victoria. Flights were up and running an hour later.
