Every year on the first day of the month of Medam, the traditional martial art/dance of padayani is performed at the Kadammanitta Devi Temple.
The ceremony lasts for eight days. The grand finale is known locally as Pathamudayam. The colourful performance features the extravagant headresses of the region, and is a manifestation of the people's passionate devotion to Bhagavathy, the Mother Goddess.
