artparis-AbuDhabi, hosted at the Emirates Palace in Abu Dhabi, is an art fair with a mission to stimulate dialogue between east and west. Over 15,000 visitors are expected and 22 countries represented in this massive show of contemporary art.
With exhibits from 58 international galleries, the spotlight centres on two particular shows in 2008. Movement and communication...Travels through desert and sea features twenty artists from the Arab world. Through photography, painting and video they explore how they've been moved by these natural elements and consequently their influence on artistic creation in the Arab world. Exhibiting artists include Faisal Samra (Saudi Arabia), Shirin Neshat (Iran), Mateu (Iraq/Spain), DaniȲle Chikhani (Lebanon) and Chaouki Chamoun (Lebanon).
The second featured show is the Sculpture Garden, located in the Emirates Palace gardens. The sculptures include works by artists such as Philippe Hiquily and Allen Jones (presented by galerie de Patrice Trigano), Vladimir Skoda (galerie Baudoin Lebon), Julian Wild (Waterhouse Gallery) and Giuseppe Penone (galerie Triangle Bleue).
