Abu Dhabi has some 20 well-maintained parks and gardens, lush pockets of greenery that reflect the commitment of the ruling family to the beautification of this desert city. Most, like Capital Gardens (known locally as Asima Gardens) contain fountains and shaded reading areas with plenty of mature trees, coloured flowers, shrubs and waterfalls. Expect to see workers eating lunch at the picnic tables, large groups of picnicking Indians, children's tea-parties and couples holding hands under the palms.
